Cobar Old Reservoir Campground

 Cobar Old Reservoir Campground is an out of the way gem for those seeking a quiet, peaceful and scenic camping experience in Cobar New South Wales. Located just 5 minutes from Cobar, this expansive free campsite offers a tranquil escape with views and a chance to connect with nature.

Atmosphere: The campground is surrounded by beautiful grassy areas and the serene reservoir, providing a picturesque setting for a relaxing getaway. The open space and lack of facilities create a rustic, back-to-basics camping experience that allows you to fully immerse yourself in the natural surroundings. While there overnight we saw kangaroos, rabbits and emu.

Facilities: While the campground lacks modern amenities such as toilets, showers, and picnic tables, it does offer rubbish bins for waste disposal. This minimalistic approach adds to the charm of the site, encouraging campers to embrace the simplicity of outdoor living.

Activities: Cobar Old Reservoir is perfect for stargazing with clear night skies and minimal light pollution. The reservoir itself is a great spot for a refreshing swim or a leisurely walk along the water's edge. During the day, you can enjoy activities like fishing, bird watching, and simply relaxing by the water.

Accessibility: The campground is accessible by 2WD vehicles in dry weather making it a convenient stop for travelers, personally I would avoid if raining or any chance of rain. The short dirt road leading to the site is rough and washed out in sections which may add to the adventure or detract, and the spacious layout ensures that campers have plenty of room to spread out with space and enjoy their stay. We only saw three other campers in the distance the night we stayed.

The Royal Hotel Denman

 Located at rear of The Royal Hotel Deman is a newly upgraded area with caravan and RV bays roadbased and turf beside each bay plus the area is fenced behind the main car park providing a private secure area. We asked at the bar before driving in and were told no problem at all just park in any of the spots behind the main car park beside the hotel. Main street of Denman is just around the corner with shops and cafe's. Distant train noise but nothing to really disturb sleep during the night.  Silverton Hotel in Silverton NSW advertises meals all day, icy cold beers, accommodation and souvenirs. We tested out the beer and a burger with the lot and a vegeburger which all hit the spot. There are many humorous quotes written on placards hanging from the ceiling and a lot of photos depicting some of the movies that have been filmed in the area.
